Tree Pop-Up Recap: A Field Trip Into the World of Trees

On Wednesday, April 8th, we hosted a Tree Pop-Up “field trip” that brought 15 guests (about 25 people total) together for a fast, fun, and hands-on introduction to the world of trees.

We explored what makes trees so “magical,” from the environmental benefits they provide to their powerful impacts on mental and physical health. We looked closely at different barks, nuts, leaves, and how to identify trees in everyday spaces. There were great questions about leaf arrangements, native and fruit trees that grow well in Rhode Island, and how photosynthesis actually works.

Huge thanks to Jenny and Sayda for helping lead the program, and to Melissa from 15 MT Field Trips for an excellent and engaging explanation of photosynthesis that really clicked with the group. We also loved the tree draw-along activity, which gave everyone a chance to slow down and observe details in a new way.

Special shoutout to Nicole for helping make sure translation support was strong throughout the session, and to United Way for the snacks that kept everyone fueled and happy. Feedback from participants was enthusiastic, with people especially excited about the mix of science, art, and hands-on learning.

We left feeling energized, connected, and reminded of how much there is to learn from the trees right outside our doors.
