The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is thrilled to announce our participation in the upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Woony Adventure Park Phase II, taking place on October 21, 2024, at 4 PM. This exciting event will be hosted by Mayor Brett P. Smiley, Councilwoman Ana Vargas, the Providence Parks Department, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM). We invite you to join us in celebrating this remarkable transformation!

Once a blighted mill and dumping area, the land along the Woonasquatucket River has undergone an incredible changes, thanks to the hard work of The Trust for Public Land and local partners. The newly transformed Woony Adventure Park is not only a testament to community resilience but also a model for climate-smart park design.

A Park for Everyone

Located in the heart of Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood, the park boasts an array of exciting recreational amenities. From a pump track to parkour equipment, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. But the benefits of this park extend far beyond recreation.

Designed with climate resilience in mind, the park features native plants, rain gardens, and shade trees that help to reduce stormwater runoff and cool the neighborhood. It is also home to a multi-use hiking and biking trail that connects to the existing five-mile Woonasquatucket River Greenway, providing vital access to the 6,000 residents living within a 10-minute walk.

Join Us for the Celebration!

This event marks a significant milestone in our community’s efforts to revitalize and protect our local environment. We encourage everyone to come out and see firsthand the positive impact of this project.
