FrogWatch Volunteer Training Brings Community Science to Life at Leo Bouchard Conservation Center

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council hosted a successful FrogWatch Volunteer Training on May 3rd at the Leo Bouchard Conservation Center, bringing together 18 participants — including 11 adults and 7 children — from across Providence, North Providence, Smithfield, and Douglas, Massachusetts.

Attendees arrived with strong enthusiasm for amphibians and environmental monitoring, actively participating in hands-on learning about frog calls and community science. The training highlighted the growing interest in local habitat stewardship and citizen-led ecological monitoring, with organizers noting the strong engagement from families and young participants. Staff reflected positively on the event’s energy and educational impact while identifying opportunities to expand future trainings with additional practice time, improved participant follow-up, and a potential two-part format combining virtual learning with field-based monitoring practice.
