This part-time, year-round position offers the chance to lead hikes, paddle trips, and other recreational activities across the scenic Woonasquatucket River Watershed. About the WRWC

The WRWC’s mission is to create positive environmental, social, and economic change by revitalizing the Woonasquatucket River, its Greenway, and the surrounding communities. Our recreation programs play a vital role in this mission, offering restorative, safe, and educational experiences that connect people with the watershed. These activities promote mental and physical well-being while building stronger relationships between communities and the natural spaces we all share.


What You’ll Do

As our Recreation Guide and Coordinator, you’ll be at the heart of our outdoor programming. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Activity Planning: Work with WRWC staff to create seasonal schedules for hikes, paddle trips, bike rides, and workshops.
  • Safety & Trip Facilitation: Supervise and guide participants on outdoor adventures while prioritizing their safety and enjoyment.
  • Logistics & Coordination: Prepare equipment, coordinate with guest educators, and ensure trips run smoothly.
  • Equipment Management: Maintain and organize outdoor recreation gear and storage.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend monthly staff meetings and collaborate with other WRWC program areas to deliver enriching outdoor experiences for youth and adults.

What You Bring

We’re seeking candidates with a mix of experience, skills, and passion:

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in outdoor recreation or education (e.g., hiking, paddling, naturalist tours).
  • Strong group facilitation, risk management, and communication skills.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to get certified).
  • Comfortable swimming and wading in water.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to tow a canoe/kayak trailer (training provided).
  • Availability on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship and advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed and its hidden gems.
