HELP THE WRWC CELEBRATE OLNEYVILLE’S NEW ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE LEADERS!
Nuevas Voces / New Voices at the Water Table, now in its third year, introduces community residents to environmental justice, climate and public health issues that affect them and amplifies their leadership for their communities. By connecting them to policy- and change-makers, and helping them gain roles on decision-making boards, commissions, and groups, resident leaders are empowered to bring awareness to the issues that impact resilience and sustainability where they live and work with others at all levels to identify and pursue solutions best aligned with local needs.
PROVIDENCE: The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is proud to announce that the 2022 Nuevas Voces class has culminated their 9-month leadership training! During these past 9 months this group has learned to advocate for environmental change that affects us all. They canvassed, they spoke up, they listened to their neighbors, and they acquired needed resources to move forward as critical links between community and power to bring about change!
Therefore, this group is most deserving of a WRWC celebration, help us cheer them on during their graduation ceremony and enjoy foods from around Latin America.

What is Nuevas Voces / New Voices at the Water Table?
Nuevas Voces at the Water Table builds capacity among resident leaders in impaired and climate vulnerable lower Woonasquatucket River Watershed neighborhoods to build advocacy and leadership skills and develop plans and projects that address environmental justice and public health challenges. These communities disproportionately face 1) Climate change related flooding from excessive stormwater and sea level rise; 2) Poor water and habitat quality; 3) Urban Heat Island; and 4) Proximity to transportation and hazards.
Through this program cohorts of residents and students self-select to become trained leaders who understand their environment and related public health challenges and the solutions, so they are ready to create plans and projects and direct resources where they are needed most to assure their safety and resilience. The New Voices at the Water Table 2022 Program culminating in November will begin again in 2023 with a new group of resident leaders.
New Voices at the Water Table is currently made possible through generous support from the US Environmental Protection Agency and The United Way of RI.

Nuevas Voces / New Voices at the Water Table, ahora en su tercer año, presenta a los residentes de la comunidad los problemas de justicia ambiental, clima y salud pública que los afectan y amplía su liderazgo para sus comunidades. Al conectarlos con los encargados de formular políticas y cambios, y ayudarlos a obtener roles en las juntas, comisiones y grupos de toma de decisiones, los líderes residentes están empoderados para generar conciencia sobre los problemas que afectan la resiliencia y la sostenibilidad donde viven y trabajan con otros a todos los niveles para identificar y buscar soluciones que estén mejor alineadas con las necesidades locales.
PROVIDENCE: El Consejo de la Cuenca del Río Woonasquatucket (WRWC) se enorgullece en anunciar que la clase 2022 Nuevas Voces ha culminado su capacitación de liderazgo de 9 meses! Durante estos últimos 9 meses este grupo ha aprendido a abogar por un cambio ambiental que nos afecta a todos. ¡Hicieron campaña, hablaron, escucharon a sus vecinos y adquirieron los recursos necesarios para avanzar como vínculos críticos entre la comunidad y el poder para lograr el cambio!
¡Por lo tanto, este grupo merece una celebración de WRWC! Ayúdenos a felicitarlos durante su ceremonia de graduación y disfrute de comidas de toda América Latina.

¿Qué es Nuevas Voces / Nuevas Voces en el Water Table?
Nuevas Voces en el Water Table desarrolla capacidades de los líderes residentes en vecindarios afectados y vulnerables al clima en la parte baja de la cuenca del río Woonasquatucket para desarrollar habilidades de defensa y liderazgo y desarrollar planes y proyectos que aborden la justicia ambiental y los desafíos de salud pública. Estas comunidades se enfrentan de manera desproporcionada a 1) inundaciones relacionadas con el cambio climático por el aumento excesivo del nivel del mar y las aguas pluviales; 2) Mala calidad del agua y del hábitat; 3) Islas de calor urbana; y 4) Proximidad al transporte y peligros.
A través de este programa, grupos de residentes y estudiantes se autoseleccionan para convertirse en líderes capacitados que comprenden su entorno y los desafíos relacionados con la salud pública y las soluciones, de modo que estén listos para crear planes y proyectos y dirigir los recursos donde más se necesitan para garantizar su seguridad y resiliencia. El programa New Voices at the Water Table 2022 que culminará en noviembre comenzará nuevamente en 2023 con un nuevo grupo de líderes residentes.
