At the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, we’re lucky to work alongside passionate people who care deeply about our community, environment, and each other. Today, we’re excited to introduce Adri Almiron, WRWC’s Resilience Hub Coordinator!

Is there something about the Woonasquatucket River or the work WRWC does that you wish more people understood?

Probably how helpful people’s support really is. We do this for the people, and their support is crucial to accomplishing our goals — even sharing information about the organization helps. Even the smallest actions matter.
Probablemente lo útil que realmente es el apoyo de las personas. Hacemos esto por la comunidad, y su apoyo es fundamental para lograr nuestras metas. Incluso compartir información sobre la organización ayuda. Hasta las acciones más pequeñas importan.
What’s an environmental issue close to your heart that you’d love to see the community tackle?
¿Cuál es un problema ambiental que te toca el corazón y que te gustaría ver que la comunidad aborde?
The reduction of multiple bird populations around the world. I think a great action anyone can take to help combat this is making sure not to let their cats roam loose and informing others about the risks they pose to many small animal species.
La disminución de múltiples poblaciones de aves alrededor del mundo. Creo que una gran acción que cualquiera puede tomar para ayudar a combatir esto es asegurarse de no dejar que sus gatos anden sueltos e informar a otras personas sobre el riesgo que representan para muchas especies pequeñas de animales.
Do you have a favorite spot along the river or in the watershed?

Wherever the geese are. I love watching them.

If you could share one small action people could take to help the environment, what would it be?

Not littering — especially plastics. They are so damaging to multiple species.
No tirar basura, especialmente plásticos. Son muy dañinos para múltiples especies.
If you could instantly master any skill or hobby, what would it be?

Boxing! Mainly because I want to skip the running part of it.

Always learn a bit more about the environment around you! There is always something fun to discover, and encouraging others to do the same is one of the best ways to care about our environment.
