This past spring, the WRWC was selected as a recipient of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s (RIDOT) Highway Safety Champion Award!

The Highway Safety Champion Award has five key focus areas as highway safety priorities: occupant protection, impaired driving, distracted driving, speed management, and pedestrian and bicycle safety. This award is a way to recognize local leaders for their efforts in keeping Rhode Island roadways safe for everyone, as well as to raise community awareness about the importance of highway safety. WRWC’s Bicycle Program Director Donny Green has done extensive work with RIDOT to help Rhode Island youth learn how to ride safely through the Red Shed’s Rhode to Bicycle Safety Program.

The award ceremony took place on Friday, May 5, at the Crown Plaza in Warwick. Donny was joined by WRWC’s Executive Director Alicia Lehrer, Assistant Bicycle Educator Brandon Bristow, and Bicycle Education Instructor Haley Essington.
