WRWC is Hiring: Community Action Director

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is excited to announce a new opportunity to join our leadership team as Community Action Director (CAD). This senior-level position is all about people power—ensuring watershed residents, especially Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) community members, are fully integrated into WRWC’s programs and leadership opportunities.

At WRWC, we believe that lasting environmental change happens when those most impacted are at the center of the work. The Community Action Director will lead our Community Action Programs, which focus on building climate preparedness, resilience, and leadership among residents of Olneyville—one of Providence’s most diverse neighborhoods and a community on the frontlines of environmental justice challenges.

What You’ll Do

The CAD will guide a dynamic team and oversee signature programs including Nuevas Voces, Climate Champions/Campeones, and our monthly speakers series, while supporting new initiatives as they emerge. Responsibilities include:

  • Convening and coordinating the Community Action Team

  • Recruiting and supporting program cohort members

  • Ensuring programs are accessible, inclusive, and celebratory of diverse voices

  • Building strong partnerships with community leaders, guest speakers, and organizations

  • Supporting resident leaders in connecting to meaningful jobs, boards, and decision-making bodies

  • Helping expand Community Action across the watershed

  • Collaborating with WRWC’s staff and board to integrate equity and leadership into all we do

This position is a great fit for someone who is deeply committed to equity, inclusion, and environmental justice, and who has experience leading programs, building partnerships, and uplifting diverse community voices.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish

  • At least five years of program management experience

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

  • Comfort working with a diverse group of people

  • Flexibility for some evenings and weekends

  • A valid driver’s license

Preference will be given to candidates with lived or professional experience in Providence neighborhoods along the Woonasquatucket River, including Olneyville, Manton, Hartford, Valley, Silver Lake, Elmhurst, and Smith Hill.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $50,000–$65,000 (depending on experience)

  • Benefits: Medical and dental insurance, retirement plan with company contribution, paid vacation, sick time, and holidays
