FIESTA DEL RIO: Summer Wellness Kick-Off at Riverside Park

Celebrate the Start of Summer Along the Woonasquatucket River
The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC), alongside Providence Parks, is excited to launch the 2026 Summer Wellness Series with Fiesta Del Rio, a free community celebration along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway.
Join neighbors, families, and community partners for an evening of outdoor recreation, wellness, music, and environmental connection at Riverside Park. The first 100 children who check in at the event will receive a free grilled cheese sandwich, snack, and drink from Championship Melts, thanks to Providence Parks and WRWC.
Fiesta Del Rio showcases the variety of free programs, performances, and activities taking place this summer throughout Providence parks and along the Greenway. The event will also celebrate the launch of WRWC’s Free Community Paddles Program, offering guided river experiences with bilingual support and opportunities for residents to build new connections to the Woonasquatucket River and one another.

- Free canoe rides
- Salsa and bachata dance lessons
- Line dancing
- Step aerobics
- Lawn games, including bocce and cornhole
- Face painting
- Chalk art
- Music and entertainment
- Community resource tables
- Snacks and refreshments

Pause for the Planet: A Community Cleanup & Healing Experience
Facilitated by Contessa Brown
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM near the Blue Fish Ladder
This unique workshop combines environmental stewardship, reflection, and wellness while helping care for the river and surrounding community.
About the Summer Wellness Series
The 2026 Summer Wellness Series brings free fitness classes, walks, paddles, garden gatherings, and community events to parks and green spaces throughout Providence. The series encourages residents of all ages to stay active, connect with nature, and build community through accessible outdoor programming.
Residents of all ages are invited to stop by, meet neighbors, enjoy the riverfront park, and celebrate the start of a summer filled with outdoor adventure and community connection.
