The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded a $10,000 grant from the AARP Community Challenge to support our “Maps and Apps to Expand Safety and Enhance User Interface along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway” project!

This funding will allow us to develop a community-informed interactive map of Rhode Island’s only funky, urban bike path and linear park. With both digital and printed elements, the map will:

  • Enhance safety and accessibility for seniors and all Greenway users

  • Crowdsource community input to identify frequently used routes and areas needing improvement

  • Activate the Greenway through guided tours, events, and workshops

We’ll be partnering with local seniors, artists, and community groups to create a tool that encourages active transportation, outdoor recreation, and engagement across neighborhoods. This project will help residents navigate the Greenway safely while strengthening connections across Providence, Johnston, and North Smithfield.

A huge thank you to AARP Rhode Island for their support, your funding will make a real difference in creating a safer, more vibrant Greenway for everyone!
