Thank You, AARP New England, for Helping Care for Olneyville Square!

We had a fantastic day at Olneyville Square thanks to our friends from AARP New England. Kuno and the WRWC rangers joined volunteers for a special maintenance day, working hard to keep our green spaces thriving. Together, we weeded and mulched the island beds, tended to the tree pits, and pruned tree suckers, the little sprouts that signal a tree may be under stress.

A special note on mulching: we are all about “donuts, not volcanoes.” In urban spaces, proper mulching helps trees retain water and stay healthy without piling mulch against the trunk. Thanks to our volunteers’ care and attention, the trees and beds in Olneyville Square are looking their best and ready to flourish through the season.

We are so grateful to AARP New England for lending their time, energy, and enthusiasm. Days like this show what is possible when our community comes together to care for the Woonasquatucket River Greenway and our shared public spaces.
