We were excited to step outside our watershed and join Take Me Fishing Day in Middletown this past weekend! Nearly 250 people came together to try their hand at fishing, enjoy crafts and activities, and spend a summer day by the water. The fishing clinics had their biggest turnout yet, with around 40 people per session — and while no fish were caught, one participant, trying fishing for the first time at age 73, summed it up best: “Wonderful time. Many thanks.”

Our very own Brookie the Brook Trout, the seven-foot fishy wonder, joined us to help teach kids and parents about the Woonasquatucket River, our watershed, and how pollution affects our streams. We also loved hanging out with MaxMan from RI Resource Recovery, who brought big energy to the day. And yes, the pizza was much appreciated.

A huge thank you to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for inviting us to be part of this great community event, and to DEM, RISAA, North Attleboro Fish Hatchery, RI Resource Recovery, and all the volunteers and interns who made it such a success. It was a privilege to participate and to see so many families connect with nature and with one another.
