Greenway

Twenty amazing volunteers joined us this month for our Riverside Park Friends Group, spending the evening learning about the plants and wildlife that make the Woonasquatucket River Greenway such a special place.

With guidance from our River Ranger team, volunteers explored the difference between native and invasive plants, talked about why pollinators like bees and butterflies rely on native species, and learned how even small planting projects can make a big difference for local wildlife. It was a chance to slow down, ask questions, and see the park through a new lens.

Together, the group planted 37 native plants that will become part of a new pollinator meadow, creating more habitat for birds, bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects while adding even more beauty to Riverside Park.

We were especially grateful to everyone who adjusted their plans and joined the Friends Group after our Community Paddle was canceled. Your enthusiasm helped make the evening a success, and the new meadow is something the whole community will enjoy for years to come.

The Riverside Park Friends Group is about more than caring for the Greenway. It’s about getting to know the place a little better each month, learning from one another, and building a community of people who want to help it thrive.
