This week, our River Rangers teamed up with Groundwork Rhode Island to restore the stormwater infrastructure at the Lyman Avenue entrance of the Woonasquatucket River Greenway. Installed in 2007 to manage flooding and runoff, the system had fallen into disrepair, leading to clogged drainage, sediment buildup, and frequent flooding.
By clearing debris and restoring stormwater flow, the teams brought this green infrastructure back to life. Proper maintenance of these systems reduces flooding, improves water quality, and enhances the trail’s accessibility for the community.
Thanks to this collaborative effort, the Lyman Avenue entrance is once again functioning as intended, safeguarding the Woonasquatucket River and providing a better experience for all visitors.
We’re proud of this work and grateful to Groundwork Rhode Island for their partnership. Together, we’re ensuring the Greenway remains a resilient and thriving space for years to come.
