Providence Riverwalk Resilience Project: Community Meeting #3
On December 11, 2025, the Providence Riverwalk Resilience Project held its third community meeting, in English and Spanish, with in-person and hybrid participation. Many of our WRWC Nuevas Voces participants attended, contributing ideas and feedback on how to make the Riverwalk and Waterplace Park safer, more accessible, and resilient.

The project will connect Downtown Providence directly to the Woonasquatucket River Greenway, expanding the city’s trail network and improving options for walking, biking, and enjoying the riverfront. Planned improvements include a new ADA-accessible shared-use path, seven new access points, safer street crossings, upgraded pedestrian bridges, and naturalized riverbanks that filter stormwater and improve habitat.

Funded through the USDOT RAISE program, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s National Coastal Resiliency Fund, and Providence Capital Improvement funds, the project is currently at 30% design. Engineering, permitting, and construction planning will continue through 2027. Once complete, the Riverwalk will be fully ADA-accessible, more climate-resilient, and connected to regional trails, supporting sustainable transportation, recreation, and public safety.

This project is a major step toward making Providence’s riverfront accessible, resilient, and connected for everyone.
