Photos and Story by Kris Craig/The Providence Journal

We’re grateful to the Providence Journal for joining us on the Woonasquatucket River in Smithfield to experience the science and surprise of fish counting firsthand. With WRWC educators, volunteers, and conservation biologists leading the way, the Journal captured our annual electrofishing survey in action: a hands-on effort to collect vital data on fish populations by temporarily stunning, identifying, and releasing aquatic species back into the river. Their coverage highlights the power of community science, environmental stewardship, and the surprising biodiversity thriving in our local waters. Thank you for helping us tell the story of this important work!
