Since September of 2024, so a little over a year! I completed a year of service with TerraCorps and have been a full-time employee since July 2025. / Desde Septiembre de 2024, así que poco más que un año. Hice un año de servicio con TerraCorps, y he sido un miembro del equipo desde Julio de 2025.
Is there something about the Woonasquatucket River or the work WRWC does that you wish more people understood? What would you like to shout from the rooftops about our mission?

*I’d share what I learned quickly when I first started here — the WRWC does SO much work in so many different areas! Many people are familiar with the work one department does here, but WRWC’s work extends to so many different people and areas. I love how WRWC focuses on different aspects of environmental justice through environmental stewardship and maintenance, education, recreational programs, and local advocacy and leadership, and wish everyone knew how many different things we take on!

What’s an environmental issue close to your heart that you’d love to see the community tackle? Why is this one especially important to you?

*Something that was pretty shocking to learn about is tree inequity in Providence. I’m from the woods of Vermont, and I’ve learned that I tend to take the presence of trees and readily accessible green spaces for granted. Living in Providence and working in the heart of Olneyville, I’ve learned so much about the lack of tree coverage in certain neighborhoods of the city–the PVD Tree Plan does a fantastic job sharing the facts and impacts of these patterns, and hearing residents’ experiences and stories has really driven home how important it is to have trees and green spaces for our neighbors to care for and enjoy.
Algo que me impactó mucho es aprender de la inequidad de árboles en Providence. Soy del campo de Vermont, y he aprendido que a veces no valoro la importancia de tener árboles y espacios verdes asequibles (hasta que no los tengamos). Do you have a favorite spot along the river or in the watershed? What makes it special to you?

*I love the offroad section just above Riverside Park and once you get away from the highway. It is so quiet and peaceful, and it’s amazing to me that I can find a quiet spot in the woods with the sound of the river flowing by in the city. (Once again, I’m from Vermont and have learned while living here that I need to be in nature to find peace!)

If you could share one small action with people that would help make a difference for the environment, what would it be?

*Properly separate & dispose of your trash, recycling, and compost! There’s so much trash in the streets that winds up in the river after it rains that could be avoided by properly disposing of it. Also, recycle properly so it actually gets recycled! Compost to reduce food waste and make beautiful nutrient-rich soil! Use reusable containers and bags whenever you can! Vote for officials that prioritize the wellbeing of their communities & environments! Encourage your elected officials to support any bills/budgets/policies that benefit the environment!
Separar y botar correctamente su basura, reciclaje y compost! Hay tanta basura en las calles que va al río cuando llueve, la cual podríamos evitar por botarla correctamente. También, ¡separar su reciclaje correctamente para que pueda ser reciclado! ¡Hacer compost para reducir desechos de comida y crear tierra linda y llena de nutrientes! ¡Usar contenedores y bolsas reutilizables cuando pueda! ¡Votar para autoridades que priorizan el bienestar de sus comunidades y ambientes! ¡Pedir a sus autoridades electas que apoyen cualquier bill/presupuesto/política que beneficie al ambiente!*
If you could instantly master any skill or hobby, what would it be?

I wish I could sew/quilt/craft like my mom can! / ¡Me encantaría poder coser/acolchar como mi mamá!
Do you have a favorite plant or tree, or maybe a “green thumb” tip you swear by?

Maybe a tomato plant because there’s nothing as good as a tomato right off the vine! / Quizás una planta de tomate porque no hay algo tan bueno como un tomate directamente de la planta.
Is there an animal (wild or pet) that you feel a special connection to, or one that always makes you smile?
