The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Lead Instructor for our Red Shed Girls’ Camp! This is a unique opportunity to inspire young riders, foster confidence, and create a fun and supportive environment along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway.
About Red Shed Girls’ Camp
The Red Shed Girls’ Camp is a one-week program designed to build confidence, leadership skills, and environmental awareness through biking and outdoor adventure. Campers will develop cycling skills, explore nature, and form strong friendships in a supportive, empowering atmosphere.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a Lead Instructor who will work alongside a team of co-instructors to deliver a well-rounded and engaging camp experience. This position is ideal for individuals who have experience in outdoor education, youth mentorship, and cycling instruction. Most importantly, we are looking for someone who will serve as a positive role model for our campers.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily activities, including bike safety instruction, group rides, environmental education, and team-building exercise
- Create an inclusive and supportive environment where all campers feel valued and encouraged.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed, including helmet use and basic bike maintenance checks.
- Work collaboratively with assistant instructors and volunteers to facilitate a smooth camp experience.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, inspiring confidence and outdoor adventure.
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents, and WRWC staff.
Qualifications
- Experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring youth, preferably in outdoor education, cycling, or recreation.
- Comfortable leading group bike rides and teaching basic cycling skills.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for girls and gender-diverse youth.
- LCI certification preferred, but not required.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before camp start date).
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and engage in physical activity, including biking.
- Must have an up-to-date Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) check before the start of camp.
- Bilingual or multilingual candidates preferred; Spanish fluency a plus!
Compensation & Schedule
- Stipend: $800 for the full camp session.
- Camp Dates: April 14th – 18th, 2025.
- The Lead Instructor must be available for the full camp week, plus one prep/training day before camp begins.
