In July, the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council hosted our first Forage & Flourish workshop, a joyful celebration of nature, creativity, and community connection. Held in the heart of Merino Park, this free event invited participants to explore the native flora of the Woonasquatucket River Greenway and create their own botanical arrangements using responsibly foraged materials.

Led by WRWC River Ranger Andrew deLisle and Director of Development and Communications Jill Davidson, the group walked the park identifying a vibrant selection of seasonal plants and flowers. Species included staghorn sumac, bee balm, eastern purple coneflower, mullein, black-eyed susan, ferns, queen anne’s lace, maple leaves, and Pennsylvania smartweed.

After gathering, we moved to the creative part. Using containers, gloves, and tools provided, each participant arranged a one-of-a-kind natural bouquet to take home. From solo adventurers to families with kids, everyone brought their own creative spark and left with something beautiful.

The workshop was a true summer highlight. We are excited to bring it back this fall, so stay tuned, get your clippers ready, and come forage and flourish with us again soon.
