Join Us for Fiesta Del Rio and the Launch of the 2026 Summer Wellness Series
Summer is here, and we’re celebrating with an evening of recreation, wellness, and fun along the Woonasquatucket River!
The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC), in partnership with Providence Parks, invites you to Fiesta Del Rio, the kickoff event for the 2026 Summer Wellness Series, on Wednesday, June 10, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Riverside Park.
Throughout the summer, the Wellness Series will bring free fitness classes, paddles, walks, garden gatherings, and community events to parks and green spaces across Providence. Fiesta Del Rio offers a chance to experience many of these activities in one place while connecting with your neighbors! It’s gonna be awesome.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the launch of WRWC’s Free Community Paddles Program, which will offer guided canoe trips throughout the summer with bilingual support. Whether you’re new to paddling or a longtime river enthusiast, these free outings are designed to help more people experience and connect with the Woonasquatucket River.
The celebration will also offers salsa and bachata dance lessons, line dancing, step aerobics, lawn games, face painting, chalk art, music, community tables, and family-friendly activities for all ages.
From 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the Riverside Park Friends Group Garden Club will host a community garden gathering. Later in the evening, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, community leader Contessa Brown will lead “Pause for the Planet: A Community Cleanup & Healing Experience” near the Blue Fish Ladder, bringing together environmental stewardship, reflection, and wellness.
Families are encouraged to arrive early. Thanks to support from Providence Parks and WRWC, the first 100 children who check in at the event will receive a free grilled cheese sandwich, snack, and drink from Championship Melts.
Fiesta Del Rio is free and open to everyone. Whether you’re interested in paddling, dancing, gardening, fitness, or simply spending time outdoors with friends and neighbors, we hope you’ll join us for this celebration of community and the start of a summer filled with opportunities to get active, explore nature, and connect with the Woonasquatucket River.
