Overview
Come learn how to sow seeds with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) during a Winter Seed-Sowing Workshop focused on native plants and building healthier ecosystems in our watershed. This family-friendly, hands-on workshop introduces participants to the process of winter sowing and overwintering native seeds — an easy, effective way to grow resilient plants that support pollinators, soil health, and tree vitality.

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn how winter sowing works and why cold exposure helps native seeds thrive

  • Plant native perennial seeds in pots to take home and care for through the winter

  • Hear from Julia, TerraCorps Land Stewardship Coordinator, about the vital relationship between native wildflowers and companion plants, including the importance of planting native vegetation beneath trees to protect insects, enrich soil, and strengthen our urban forests

All tools, soil, containers, and seeds will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own native seeds if they have species they’d like to get a head start on.
