Jornada de Cuidado del Bosque Comestible/Food Forest Care Day

Our Forest Care Days brings people together in Providence to explore forest stewardship, outdoor learning, and community connection.

What is better than a forest? A food forest!

In an urban landscape full of cars, buildings, and highway systems, every inch of green space is essential to the health of the urban landscape and the inhabitants who live, work, and play there. All across Providence, there are pockets of space that are home to food forests– dense ecosystems of plants and trees that serve as habitat for biodiversity while providing food, medicine, and resources to the local residents. In this event, we will spend time in the Roger Williams Park Food Forest, first planted by community members 15 years ago, and recently brought back to life by our friends at the Pearl Street Garden Collective. We’ll learn about the space, why it is important in an urban setting, and how to maintain it for future generations of Providence residents!

The Roger Williams Park Food Forest is located to the right of the community garden near the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center @ 1 Floral Ave, Providence, RI 02905 (Please refer to the map provided below for parking and location of the food forest)

Join us for Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Days, a series of community volunteer days dedicated to caring for neighborhood trees and green spaces in Providence.

Throughout the season, we’ll travel to different sites across 02909 and 02908 to support the health of our growing urban forest. These gatherings bring neighbors together to care for the trees that shade our streets, cool our neighborhoods, and make our communities stronger.

Volunteer tasks will vary by location and need. Together we may remove invasive plants, pick up litter, water young trees, spread mulch, and help maintain the spaces where our trees grow. These days are also designed to be family-friendly, with activities for kids and opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Days are about more than just tree care—they’re about building community. Sometimes we’re working hard, and sometimes we’re just vibing: giving back, sharing food, and celebrating with neighbors.

Events are free, bilingual (Spanish and English), and open to everyone. Food will be available, and all tools and supplies will be provided.

Please dress for outdoor work, including comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. Bring water and anything else you need to stay comfortable.
