Fish Counting Training at the Fish Ladder – Rising Sun Mills (188 Valley St)
Date: March 28, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Want to get your hands (or maybe just your clipboard) wet and help out with some cool environmental work? Join us for a laid-back Fish Counting Training at the fish ladder at Rising Sun Mills! This is your chance to learn about the fascinating world of herring, the history of the fish ladder, and how to contribute to our climate resilience and restoration efforts by counting these important fish.
Why do we do this? Every spring WRWC returns to this spot with fish-loving volunteers like yourself to monitor the population of river herring returning to the Woonasquatucket river to spawn.
The training itself only takes about 15 minutes, but you can swing by anytime between 10 AM and 12 PM to get the rundown. Once you’re trained up, you can come back anytime to count fish and help us track their journey. No experience necessary—just a little curiosity and a love for nature! Come on down and be a part of something big!
