Community Quilt Project

15 Minute Field Trips, in collaboration with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council and community members, invites you to participate in a collaborative art project exploring people’s connection to the Woonasquatucket watershed.

Overview

This project will result in a 30” x 42” community quilt representing personal, cultural, and ecological relationships to the watershed. Community members will receive quilt squares to embellish using media of their choice, including embroidery, beadwork, felting, painting, weaving, and more.

Participants are encouraged to reflect on themes such as:

  • Local flora, fauna, and funga

  • Indigenous history

  • The American and Industrial Revolutions

  • Immigration and community stories

  • The local art community

  • Restoration and environmental change

Each square corresponds to a mapped section of the watershed. Completed squares will be assembled into a finished quilt accompanied by:

  • A sheer overlay printed with the river and tributaries

  • A mounted watershed timeline (pre-Colonial to present)

  • A response book for visitor reflections

The quilt will travel to communities throughout the watershed, accompanied by guest speakers and public conversations.
