This past Saturday, December 21st, we hosted a magical Winter Solstice Hike along the beautiful Stillwater Scenic Trail. Fifteen folks, from kids to adults, bundled up and braved the gentle snowfall to celebrate the turning of the seasons with mindfulness, poetry, and plenty of good vibes.

The hike was an easy, relaxed stroll, perfect for soaking in the winter wonderland and reflecting on the year’s shortest day. For many, it was their first time exploring this gem of a trail, where they also learned how Stillwater Pond connects to the Woonasquatucket River watershed.

We kicked things off with introductions and even shared some favorite tunes. Along the way, Melissa from 15-Minute Field Trips wowed us with fun facts about mushrooms and birds. At the halfway point—noon, when the sun reached its highest point—we gathered around a small fire, lit tea candles, and shared beautiful readings, including poetry by Margaret Atwood and Mary Oliver. Some guests even read their own writings and expressed their seasonal gratitude.

To wrap up the celebration, everyone received native wildflower seeds—a little piece of winter magic to plant and nurture in the year ahead.

This event was such a joyful way to honor the solstice. We loved meeting new faces, hearing heartfelt reflections, and building community through nature. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this special day!
