Donigian Park Clean Day: A Celebration of Community and Nature

On Saturday, October 12th, Donigian Park came alive with the spirit of community as over 50 enthusiastic neighbors gathered for our Donigian Park Clean Day. This collaborative event, held from 10 AM to 1 PM, was a resounding success thanks to the dedication of volunteers and partners committed to enhancing our local environment.

Planting for the Future

One of the highlights of the day was the planting of over 2,000 crocus corms. This vibrant display of flowers will bloom in the spring, bringing a burst of color to our park and providing essential support to local pollinators. A heartfelt thank you to Garden Time and Bloom RI for supplying the corms and providing invaluable guidance throughout the planting process!

Alongside this, native plants were planted to enrich the park’s biodiversity and contribute to a healthier ecosystem.

Community Efforts

In our efforts to keep Donigian Park clean, volunteers collected an astonishing 14 42-gallon trash bags of litter, including some surprising finds like mattresses and even a TV!

Tackling Invasives

Among the many volunteers, one dedicated machete wielder took to the woods, skillfully cutting back invasive Japanese knotweed.

A Day to Remember

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our partners, especially Zero Waste Providence, who helped us create a more sustainable community. We are also grateful for the $500 microgrant from the Litter-Free Rhode Island Fall Cleanup and Beautification initiative, which made this day of action possible.

Donigian Park is a vital green space in the heart of Providence, offering residents a place to connect with nature and one another. We are proud to play a role in keeping it beautiful and vibrant for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed to making Donigian Park Clean Day a wonderful celebration of community spirit and environmental stewardship. We look forward to seeing you at future events!
