The Rhode to Bicycle Safety: Two-Thirds Through an Exciting Season!
The Rhode to Bicycle Safety (R2BS), founded in 2019, is a program of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. As we move through the 2025 season, we’re proud to share that R2BS is two-thirds complete, and by the end, our instructors will have worked with nearly 600 fifth-grade students across Rhode Island.

Each student participates in a hands-on, four-part course designed to build both skill and confidence on two wheels. The 180-minute program combines classroom lessons and on-bike practice, teaching essential topics such as the rules of the road, helmet safety, intersection navigation, and bicycle checks.
Our instructors are committed to helping every student succeed. Trainers are always available to support anyone who struggles with balance, whether due to a disability, phobia, or just needing a little more time.

The season’s not over yet, but it’s already been an incredible ride toward safer, more confident young cyclists across Rhode Island.
