A Perfect Day for the Clemence-Irons Historical Bike Ride!

On September 14th, we had an absolutely beautiful day for our Clemence-Irons Historical Bike Ride, and it could not have gone better. Riders gathered bright and early at Eagle Square, grabbed water, adjusted helmets, and set off along the Woonasquatucket River Greenway for a scenic 8-mile round trip ride to the Clemence-Irons House in Johnston.

Along the way, we were treated to fascinating stories from historian Sarah Zurier of the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission. She shared the history of the river from the 17th century to today, highlighting landmarks like Riverside Park and Dyerville Mill, which made the ride even more meaningful.

The highlight of the morning was our private tour of the Clemence-Irons House, led by Historic New England. This 1691 stone-ender is one of the oldest surviving houses in Rhode Island and an important record of twentieth-century restoration methods. We loved exploring the house and learning about its unique history before heading back along the Greenway to Eagle Square.

We are so grateful to everyone who joined us for this ride. Special thanks to Sarah Zurier, the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, and Historic New England for making this event so special.

If you missed this ride, do not worry. We have more Greenway rides and history-themed adventures planned, so stay tuned!
