The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council’s (WRWC) River Rangers finally have a place to call home! Nestled near Merino Park, this much-needed space provides shelter, storage, and essential amenities for the team that keeps the Woonasquatucket River Greenway thriving. The space is 2500 sq ft, heated, and has a loading dock for easy access with the Ranger vehicles.
A Space for Rangers to Recharge & Organize
For years, our River Rangers have worked tirelessly to maintain the Greenway—clearing invasive plants, planting native species, keeping stormwater systems functioning, and leading clean-ups. Now, they finally have an indoor hub to store tools, equipment, and signage, making their work more efficient and organized. This space will help the team manage resources, plan projects, and store supplies like tents and tables for easy access.
More Than Just Storage
The new space isn’t just about function—it’s about comfort, too! With a shower, sinks, and bathrooms, it offers a place for Rangers to freshen up after a long day along the Greenway. It also provides a much-needed escape from the elements—a warm spot in the cold months and a shady retreat in the summer.
Supporting the Greenway’s Stewards
Our River Rangers are the heartbeat of the Greenway. They don’t just maintain the land—they bring it to life through ecological care, art, and community engagement. The new Ranger Station is an investment in their work and in the health of the Woonasquatucket River itself.
We’re grateful for this new home base and excited for the future of the River Ranger program. Stay tuned for updates as we make the space our own, and if you’re looking for ways to support the Rangers, we’ll be sharing a list of needed items soon!
Thank you for being part of the Woonasquatucket River community and for supporting the Rangers who keep our river, parks, and mult-use trail thriving!
