WRWC Joins Partners at the 2025 Stormwater Innovation Expo

On October 8, 2025, the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) attended and participated in the Seventh Annual Stormwater Innovation Expo at Roger Williams Park. Hosted by the Rhode Island Green Infrastructure Coalition and the Stormwater Innovation Center, the Expo brings together experts, advocates, and community organizations to share ideas and solutions for climate resilience and stormwater management in Rhode Island.

WRWC was proud to table alongside many partners and vendors, connecting with community members and sharing information about our programs and ongoing work along the Woonasquatucket River. Executive Director Alicia J. Lehrer led a workshop during the regional breakout group discussion, highlighting WRWC’s approach to community-driven environmental solutions. Over 10 WRWC staff members participated from nearly every program, showing the breadth of work we do from urban forestry to green infrastructure and watershed education.

The Expo offered an opportunity to exchange ideas, spark collaboration, and explore innovative solutions to challenges like flooding, rising seas, and water quality issues. Participants learned from presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and outdoor field sessions covering topics such as stormwater basin retrofits, shoreline resilience projects, and culvert assessments.

“Events like this are a great reminder that addressing climate challenges takes all of us working together,” said Alicia J. Lehrer. “We are grateful to the organizers, our partners, and everyone who stopped by our table to talk about ways to make our communities safer and more resilient.”

WRWC’s participation in the Stormwater Innovation Expo highlights our commitment to community-based solutions, green infrastructure, and building climate resilience across Rhode Island. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work, learn from others, and continue fostering partnerships that protect our rivers, neighborhoods, and ecosystems.
