The WRWC is excited that over $6 million in federal funding will go toward improving the Woonasquatucket River Greenway and connecting it to the Washington Secondary Bike Path! Senator Jack Reed worked to allocate $3.4 million toward enhancing the section of the Woonasquatucket River Greenway between Eagle Square and Providence Place with amenities like more park spaces, a kayak launch and better lighting. $3.2 million will go toward developing a strong connection between the Woonasquatucket River Greenway and the Washington Secondary Bike Path, an important link from Cranston through Olneyville, Smith Hill and Silver Lake.
This funding will go toward enhancing both bike and pedestrian travel while connecting the bike paths to more neighborhoods.
Senator Reed shared his anticipation for the upcoming improvements at Friday’s press conference: “The long and winding road is about to get a bit longer, smoother, safer and more connected thanks to these federal funds and the tireless advocacy of the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council. The bike path is for everyone and it promotes healthy living.”
