The WRWC was featured in the Valley Breeze last week!
Last Saturday, the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) hosted a community cleanup at the Smithfield Conservation Center Building, which will be the future location of the WRWC’s Environmental Education Center. Thanks to the support of the Smithfield Conservation Center and a grant from the Annenberg Foundation, the future Environmental Education Center will include indoor and outdoor classrooms, picnic tables, a native garden, and more.
Smithfield makes up the largest landmass in the Woonasquatucket River Watershed and contains the headwaters of the Woonasquatucket River. The town of Smithfield has already committed to working with the WRWC, allowing the organization to work with all three elementary schools in the town, with field trips to the center occurring in the spring.
This event was an initial cleanup for the site, with a follow-up community cleanup event happening later in the fall.
