On Thursday, September 5, at 11 AM, U.S. Senator Jack Reed will join Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, U.S. Congressman Gabe Amo, EPA Region 1 Water Division Director Ken Moraff, and other state and local officials to announce $11.5 million in new EPA funding for clean water and coastal ecosystem projects in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, supported by the Southeast New England Program (SNEP).
The event will highlight seven Rhode Island organizations receiving a total of $1.5 million in grants for high-priority projects across the state. A walking tour of York Pond, which is receiving a $282,000 grant for its restoration, will follow the speaking program.
In addition, the EPA will announce $8.75 million in new funding for technical assistance to support communities working on clean water and healthy ecosystems. This assistance will be available over the next five years through the SNEP Network, managed by the New England Environmental Finance Center at the University of Southern Maine.
