Merino Park Construction Updates
Construction of Phase 1 of the Woonasquatucket River Greenway expansion in Merino Park will begin shortly. During Phase 1, the entrance and parking lot of Merino will be closed to vehicles Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM. On-site signage will be posted to help guide visitors.
Merino Park will remain open and accessible by foot and bike throughout construction.
To support continued access, alternative parking will be available at the following locations:
-
Sheridan Street (street parking)
-
Flower Street (street parking)
-
Barbara Street (street parking)
-
Turners Club (off-street parking in designated areas only)
A map showing these alternative parking options is provided below.
The project will create a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists to access Merino Park from Hartford Avenue and add another 1/3-mile to the seven-mile Woonasquatucket River Greenway network.
The Heath Street Greenway Project is transforming access to Merino Park by creating a safer, more enjoyable route for people walking and biking. New green space and expanded recreational access for the community will be added along the way. Phase 1 is expected to finish late Spring 2026. Phase 2 is expected to start after the busy summer and fall months.
Thank you for your patience as we work to improve this important connection.
