Our team is at the heart of everything we do at the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, and we’re excited to share their stories with you! In our “Meet the Team” series, we’ll highlight the passionate individuals who make our work possible—sharing their roles, inspirations, and favorite moments along the river. From personal reflections to environmental insights, this series is a way for you to connect with the people behind the WRWC and learn what drives them to protect and celebrate the Woonasquatucket River and its watershed.

How long have you been part of the WRWC team?
I began as a River Ranger in late summer 2021.

What’s something about the Woonasquatucket River or WRWC’s work that you wish more people understood?
Everything is connected! What we do on land affects what happens in the water, what we do in cities impacts life in less dense areas, and vice versa. It’s so important to keep these connections open. The Woonasquatucket River and Greenway are incredible ways for both people and wildlife to stay connected throughout the watershed.

What’s an environmental issue close to your heart that you’d love to see the community tackle? Why is it especially important to you?
Improperly stored garbage is a recurring problem I see everywhere. It’s almost like the ‘last mile’ where waste either makes it to the proper facilities or gets dragged by animals, blown by the wind, or washed into our waterways during storms. Simple solutions and care could dramatically reduce the litter humans spread across the Earth.

Do you have a favorite spot along the river or in the watershed? What makes it special?
There are so many special places along the Woonasquatucket, each tied to a memory or ecological wonder. One of my favorites is where I first spent time along the river after moving to Providence in 2020. Living in Smith Hill, I was drawn to the valley along Promenade and Kinsley Ave. It became my gateway to discovering so much more upstream.

If you could share one small action people could take to help the environment, what would it be?
Be mindful of what you consume and the impact it has on the planet.

If you could instantly master any skill or hobby, what would it be?
Instant language learning!

Do you have a favorite plant or tree, or a “green thumb” tip you swear by?
It changes all the time, but right now I’ll say Button Bush!

Is there an animal (wild or pet) that you feel a special connection to or one that always makes you smile?
I love seeing muskrats cruising down the river.
