Our vision is catching on. The restoration of the downtown Woonasquatucket River is the impetus for developing what is now being dubbed the Woonasquatucket River Corridor. Since the 1990s, the WRWC has been the constant voice for change on the downtown Woony. We’ve been clearing invasive plant species, cleaning riverbanks, adding artwork and canoeing along this stretch of river to build awareness of this once-forgotten resource. Our mission is to bring people closer to nature by making the downtown Woony River an exciting destination. . As a result, the City of Providence, in partnership with the WRWC and the community along the Woonasquatucket Corridor, is now developing ways to fund a massive revitalization of one of Providence’s “oldest industrial corridors.” We’re proud to see this collaborative effort bringing our vision of an improved downtown river closer to reality.
