The WRWC will be attending the Woony Adventure Park Phase II, ribbon cutting on October 21st and so should you! Hosted by Mayor Brett P. Smiley, Councilwoman Ana Vargas, the Providence Parks Department, and RI DEM. Once a blighted mill and garbage dump, this space along the Woonasquatucket River has been transformed by The Trust for Public Land and local partners into a vibrant, climate-smart park.
Located in the heart of Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood, the park offers exciting recreational amenities, including a pump track and parkour equipment. Beyond recreation, the park serves as a model for climate resilience, with native plants, rain gardens, and shade trees reducing stormwater runoff and cooling the neighborhood. The park is also home to a multi-use hiking and biking trail that connects to the existing five-mile Woonasquatucket River Greenway, providing access to 6,000 residents living within a 10-minute walk.
