As Election Day approaches for Rhode Islanders on November 8, one of the many important topics on the ballot includes referendum Question 3, also known as the Green Bond. If approved, the proceeds of this $50 million measure will deliver a cleaner, greener, and fairer Rhode Island.
Green Bond funding has helped protect our waters and aided in the fight for environmental justice and conservation for decades, as well as helped build recreational facilities and playgrounds that have benefitted communities throughout the state. This measure is especially important to the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, whose mission is to create positive environmental, social, and economic change by revitalizing the Woonasquatucket River, its Greenway, and its communities. Major cleanup efforts to the Woonasquatucket River were made possible thanks to federal funding secured by Senators John Chaffee and Jack Reed, state funding, and private investments.
The work of the WRWC and other community partners throughout Rhode Island continues as we fight to minimize the impacts of climate change on our neighborhoods, restore natural ecosystems and habitats native to the Watershed, and remove decades of harmful chemicals and pollutants from the River. To aid in this fight, we encourage you to vote YES on 3 at the ballot!
